Mindanao Leadership Conference Sparks Hope Amidst Adversity
Ten out of twelve district missionaries and their assistants traveled long distances to Davao City, Mindanao, for their annual leadership meeting, centered on the theme: "The King is Coming: The End Times."
Keynote Message: Readiness & Service Pastor Oscar Claudio delivered a compelling keynote address, urging leaders to stay prepared as God’s hands and feet. Anchored in Scripture, he emphasized:
Fervent Prayer: Deepening spiritual reliance on God.
Active Evangelism: Reaching communities with the Gospel.
Willingness to Serve: Remaining available for God's call at any moment.
Ministry in Conflict and Disaster Zones Pastor Claudio’s ministry in the Maguindanao district reaches three indigenous tribes—the Tiruray, Bilaan, and T’boli. Ministry in this region faces constant external pressures:
Security Threats: Communities remain under constant risk from ISIS-affiliated insurgents, yet leaders stand firm in the conviction that their lives rest safely in God’s hands.
Natural Disasters: Recent earthquakes and severe floods have damaged regional infrastructure and church buildings.
Prayer Request: The district urgently requests prayer for protection, spiritual strength, and divine provision to rebuild destroyed churches and communities.
Spiritual Wisdom & Campus Ministry Success Davao del Norte District Missionary, Leahsol Siga, also shared an inspiring message from Ephesians 1 on cultivating spiritual wisdom. She emphasized that prioritizing Scripture study, constant prayer, and authentic personal testimonies enable believers to shine as lights in the darkness. In Davao del Norte, church leaders celebrated a major ministry breakthrough: local government officials officially permitted church leaders to minister and evangelize within public schools, opening unprecedented doors to reach the next generation through Campus Ministry.
All the districts reported active youth fellowships, two multidistrict youth camps, days of prayer and evangelism, baptisms, fund raising projects, church growth and more.
Earthquake and Flooding Bring Tremendous Challenges and need for Prayer
The magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit close to many of the CMFE churches has caused damage to several CMFE churches. Fortunately, since the earthquake hit on a Monday, none of the church members were hurt. It was also a blessing that the earthquake hit two weeks after the youth camp ended. Tamneg Calvary Church (pictured below) whose roof and rear wall collapsed was the host church to the four-day youth camp. The other affected churches include Langaran Calvary Church, Landamay Calvary Church and a few more in the T’boli districts. The churches have active children’s programs.
Again, the Philippines was battered by strong typhoons and storms which moved through the islands of Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao. While the winds were manageable, the excessive rains caused deep and fast-moving floods. The Images below show a human chain that was quickly formed to rescue children near Traanfit Calvary Church. Indeed, for more than half of our mission trip to Manila strong winds, heavy rains and flooding plagued the Philippine capital city.

For over 77 years, Manila Calvary Church has been a steadfast light in the heart of the community, and we are also honored to serve as the headquarters for the Christian Mission in the Far East.
Nestled in the vibrant Malate neighborhood of Manila, the church’s mission is focused on serving the poor in the neighborhood. Sunday service, prayer meetings and feeding the poor continue weekly. Praise God for His many blessings and provision.
